Bhapa Bhetki

The Bhapa Bhetki is usually prepared by steaming the fish and gravy together . This is a slight variation where you cook the fish and gravy separately and finally assemble it together . The results are scrumptious.

What You Need for the Fish Fry:

  • Bhetki 4 to 5 pieces
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Red chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • Mustard Oil for frying

Steps To Make:

  • Marinate fish with lemon juice, salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder and keep aside for 30 minutes.
  • Fry oil in a pan. 
  • Gently slide in the fish slices.
  • Cook till done on both sides.
  • Take out and keep Aside

What You Need for the gravy :

  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 2 tbsp coconut
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard seeds
  • 3 green chili
  • 1 whole garlic peeled

  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves for garnishing

Steps To Make:

Make a paste of the following and put in a pan along with 2 cups of water.
Bring it to boil

For Tempering : 

  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in  a pan.
  • Add ½ tsp each of mustar seeds, cumin seeds, carom seeds and fennel seeds.
  • Add the tempering to the boiling gravy.
  • Add the fried Bhetki pieces.
  • Boil for another half minute
  • Add coriander leaves for garnishing
